Steve Miller Band
July 1, 1973 · Record Plant Sausalito
KSAN aired Steve Miller Band live from the Record Plant on July 1, 1973, three months before Capitol released "The Joker" as a single, and the song was already in the set. The fifteen-song broadcast opens with a tease of "Fly Like an Eagle" tucked inside "My Dark Hour," three years before that title became a hit record in its own right. The set catches Miller mid-transition, moving from the blues-rock of his earlier albums toward the more radio-friendly sound that would define the rest of the decade, with two of his signature songs caught taking shape before either had been formally released.

KSAN 95 FM broadcast: 2026-07-25: Recording URL set to official YouTube 'Gangster of Love (Live)' (Shake Your Tree release) as interim single-track audio; full pre-FM show ordered on physical media, archive.org upload planned for URL2. CENSUS 2026-07-26: Tom supplied liner notes from his physical copy of an 'All Access' 2012 bootleg CD reissue of this broadcast (photographed back cover). Full 15-track setlist with composer credits and timings written to Tracks (total 62 min, matches summed track times exactly). Personnel written to People: Steve Miller (vocals, guitar), Gerald Johnson (bass, vocals), Dicky Thompson (piano, clavinet/keyboards), Jack King (drums). Artist stub corrected from bare 'Steve Miller' to 'Steve Miller Band' (Type: Band) and linked. Source added (Physical Document) citing the CD liner notes; no online URL yet, pending the archive.org upload Tom has planned for the full pre-FM show. DATE RESOLUTION 2026-08-04: All Access CD liner notes (AACD0108) print broadcast date as "June 1st 1973" — conflicts with Donahue/Porter list, Airtable date fields, article slug, and YouTube upload, all of which use July 1, 1973. July 1, 1973 confirmed canonical; liner note date treated as source error, not used. YOUTUBE ABANDONED 2026-08-04: Full pre-FM show upload to Tom's YouTube channel blocked in Russia by three Content ID conflicts; YouTube offered only all-or-nothing resolutions (cut the flagged songs or re-edit the video), no option to re-upload as-is. Tom declined both remedies — YouTube upload abandoned entirely. archive.org (https://archive.org/details/stevemillerband1973-07-01t06) is now the sole canonical audio source and is live. Pending YouTube edits (title typo fix, chapter timestamps) are moot and dropped.
