The Sons of Champlin at the Record Plant, June 17, 1973
KSAN put the Marin band on the air from the Record Plant just after its 1973 Columbia release, Welcome to the Dance.
By Tom Proctor
The Sons of Champlin formed in Marin County in 1965. Eight years on, the band was still local, and on June 17, 1973 it went on the air a few miles from where it started.
KSAN carried the hour as Live From The Plant, broadcast from the Record Plant at 2200 Bridgeway in Sausalito. Tom Donahue hosted, 11 p.m. to midnight.
The timing put the band on the radio with a new major-label record behind it. Welcome to the Dance had been released that year on Columbia.
That is the reason to hold the date. A Marin band, a Marin station, a Sausalito room, and one live hour with the Columbia album still new.
No approved playable copy of the broadcast has been confirmed. What this page holds is the date, the station, the room, and the hour it aired.
