Bonnie Raitt
December 9, 1973 · Record Plant Sausalito
By December 9, 1973, Bonnie Raitt had released three albums on Warner Brothers to strong reviews but modest sales, still sixteen years from the commercial breakthrough of Nick of Time. The Record Plant broadcast catches her in the middle of that long, patient build, drawing directly from Mississippi Delta blues at a time when few white women were playing that style. Sippie Wallace, a mentor to Raitt, had a song close the set: "Women Be Wise." Tom Donahue introduced the performance, and the broadcast is cited in Richie Unterberger's history of the Record Plant as a defining KSAN appearance.
