California Raisins

Near-contemporary Mix reporting identifies Mark Keller, Jeff Cohen, and Walter Afanasieff as responsible for the California Raisins television music and states that their first project in The Plant’s new Boomtown room was the Michael Jackson “Michael Raisin” spot. Contemporary Radio & Records reporting says Jackson supplied the speaking voice but not the singing voice. A later Will Vinton production account places Jackson’s impromptu “woo-hoo” recording during postproduction in Los Angeles. Do not claim that Jackson personally recorded at The Plant without additional session evidence. The commercial premiered July 28, 1989.
