Carlos Santana recorded Havana Moon at the Automatt in San Francisco and brought it to the Record Plant in Sausalito to mix. Multiple pressings carry the Sausalito mix credit. Jerry Wexler and Barry Beckett produced, with Santana and Booker T. Jones as associate producers. Willie Nelson sings on "They All Went to Mexico," cut at his Pedernales studio in Texas. CBS released the album on April 1, 1983.
