Rick James

Rick James recorded Throwin' Down at the Record Plant in Sausalito and at Motown's Hollywood studio, then mixed it entirely in Sausalito. Tom Flye engineered, recorded, and mixed. James played most of the instruments himself, and the guests included Grace Slick, the Temptations, Roy Ayers, and Narada Michael Walden. Gordy released it on May 13, 1982. It reached number 13 on the Billboard 200 and went gold.
