Doug Sahm had already lived several careers by November 11, 1973. He'd fronted the Sir Douglas Quintet through the British Invasion, moved to San Francisco in the mid-1960s, scored a hit with "She's About a Mover," and that same year recorded Doug Sahm and Band for Atlantic alongside Bob Dylan and Dr. John. The Record Plant set that followed featured Augie Meyers on keyboards and Martin Fierro on horns, a Bay Area session veteran who'd go on to tour with the Grateful Dead. Sahm played both of his best-known songs, "She's About a Mover" and "Mendocino," twice each during the broadcast.
