Elvin Bishop Group
July 8, 1973 · Record Plant Sausalito
On the same July 8, 1973 evening that Jerry Garcia and Merl Saunders broadcast from the Record Plant, Elvin Bishop brought his own group in for a separate KSAN set. Bishop had left the Paul Butterfield Blues Band in 1968 and settled in the Bay Area, and by this point had released three solo albums with a fourth on the way. His commercial breakthrough, "Fooled Around and Fell in Love," was still three years off. The broadcast catches him as a well-regarded regional blues-rock bandleader, well before the single that would make him a household name.
