Chapter 7 — The Revival, 2020 to the Present

The circle closes, and 2200 Studios comes to life.

On June 19, 2021, the studio held a soft launch under a new name: the Record Factory. Shortly after, operating as 2200 Studios — named for the address that had defined it for five decades — the facility reopened for recording.

The rooms are largely intact. Studio A still has its sunburst wall. The diagonal redwood siding still frames the entrance. The gold and platinum records still line the hallways. The building is described by those who work in it as a time capsule of its 1970s construction — psychedelic murals, velvet clouds, redwood paneling — now paired with modern recording infrastructure.

Alongside the commercial studio, the 2200 Music Foundation was established as a nonprofit with a mission to preserve the building, advance live recording education, and keep the space accessible to emerging artists, students, and the broader community. The Foundation's position is clear: this should not become a museum. It should remain a working studio.

2200 Studios will carry the torch forward.
