Studio Session. Released February 1987 on Columbia. CENSUS 2026-06-13: Verified via Discogs, AllMusic, and Wikipedia. Santana's fifteenth studio album, recorded and mixed entirely at The Plant Studios, Sausalito (Discogs vinyl credits confirm both recording and mixing at this location; mastered at Masterdisk, New York). Marked a return to the band's original Latin rock sound after the poppier "Beyond Appearances" (1985). Nine-member lineup at the time. Produced by Carlos Santana and Jeffrey Cohen (tracks 1-3), with Chester D. Thompson and Sterling Crew co-producing tracks 4, 5, and 8; Sterling Crew also served as mixing supervisor. Engineering credits include Robert Missbach. Ten tracks: Veracruz, She Can't Let Go, Once It's Gotcha, Love Is You, Songs of Freedom, Deeper Dig Deeper, Praise, Mandela, Before We Go Higher, The River. Reached #95 on Billboard album chart — did not revive commercial fortunes. Sources: Discogs r7916017/r1573886, AllMusic, Wikipedia (Freedom album), Grokipedia.
